Dynastic Patronage: Mandates, Roles and Responsibilities
The Dynastic Patron and/or Patroness not only presides over the execution of the Institution of the Patron's mandates but it also, in its ceremonial capacity, is expected to fulfill five categories of public diplomacy towards the ultimate objective of elevating its client institutions: advocacy, listening, cultural exchange/diplomacy, educational exchange, and informational broadcasting. As a figurehead, the Patron and/or Patroness function as a National Brand Ambassador, conducting official visits at the request of institutions, governments, agencies, and charities, while remaining apolitical. Any diplomatic tour serves as advocacy, representing Ethiopian culture and elevating perceptions abroad. Listening respectfully before, during, and after interactions is vital for positive relations. When performed expertly, the nuanced role of the Dynastic Patron can strengthen Ethiopia's overall soft power and standing globally.
The Institution of the Patron holds exclusive mandates granted by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to serve as the official Dynastic Patron, representing the Dynastic Traditions both domestically and internationally, and acting on behalf of the country’s distinguished Solomonic and Non-Solomonic legacies.
